Right:

Firstly, reports of my demise on NPR are seriously misreported.

Secondly:
The Forum here;

Any changes that are made or to be made are nothing really to do the forums here or on F365. It's much more to do with stability of content and CMS on the main pages. Forums make up about 0.5% of the revenue of the group but are a part of the whole site, so we have also to mend them and sort them for the other parts to function too.

22nd May, I told the mods what I thought was happening- that was a migration to a totally new platform, XenForo. At that time, I also contacted Houts and briefed him fully to ensure the users got continuity.

However, due to the sheer brokenness of the DB's and stuff, the XenForo move in one go was nigh on technically impossible and we (me included) have spent 2 months repairing it.

So, PR will get a new DB fix and update in the next 2 weeks as I put in someone's thread y'day. That doesn't say it's going. Far from it. It'll be here. The Security Cert was an unrelated co-incidence.

We will then move again once things have stabilised to the XenForo option. (probably!)

Now, if you want to go to NPR, fine. If you want to stay, fine.

Apols to all that, through sheer time pressures and the fact F365 is 400 times bigger and has taken up my life in sorting it, I forgot to tell you (and also, for this update today, the mods).

If you want to ask questions, I'll try and answer as far as I can.

PR Apokolypse averted :thumbup:

NPR might be handly when the board crashes, like CP was.

Shame poor ASMO had to waste so much time and effort on what seems to have been a "prank" by Jake :thumbdown:

You mentioned that the new site would be rugby only (or maybe sports only - I can't remember). Is that still likely to be the case Jake?

Lance:

This is unfortunately how messages become mixed- and if that's my fault I apologise.

Plan Sport have 5 products- the roll out is over each of them IN TURN. So yes, all sports, but 5 seperate fora.

So this will be rugby. However, and this is for avoidance of doubt, my preference is a full migration to XenForo and a new style of forum.

That is still being debated by the team as we have tried the migration once (F365 not here), but not succeeded. Now we've rebuilt the structure, we might succeed.

If you look at this logically, the forum 'concept' is 20 yrs old and this iteration is 9 yrs old. In that time, media consumption habits have changed dramatically.

I'm going to keep flitting between the two, a sort of quantum poster if you will.

Jake, you mentioned though that this bored will in future be moderated by the owners, or outsiders appointed by the owners.

The way I understood it from day 1, was that this forum will still exist, but the owners will take over the running thereof.

In my view, and I think this might have been forgotten by some, is that this change in modding is what will "kill" the forum.

It will still exist, but will not be the same place we all loved. It will become a stale version of itself.

Trog;

That is absolutely correct. However, since XenForo not happening yet, that's now on the back burner as of Monday this week- I just hadn't had time to communicate it- in fact I clean forgot due to pressures of other things. This is a moving feast.

You decided to have another "look at me" episode and then shit hit the fan when a viable alternative came along and people started leaving. You then got your ass handed to you by the owners and have now rowed back on the pretence that is was all a big misunderstanding

Jake. This is me. The notion of your rooting around, mending tech. is a credible as if you had claimed to have hired OS to oversee as a consultant.

This may still be your fiefdom but no one is buying your building the temple.

Yes, I am sure we're bothered about a forum that generates 4k a year in ad revenue in a business that turns over 12million. Sure you're right. :thumbup:

Jake explicitly told me on messenger that the bored was being shutdown and that he would do everything he could to help a transition to a new bored not tied to Planet Rugby and was discussing with Houts.

Whatever has happened, it’s had some effect.

There’s about six people currently viewing this place.

Time to pull the trigger and end it. It’s just sad now.

Seems to be ten year old software from a quick google.

So, in response;

PR is pretty unusual in so far as we get huge desktop traffic but little mobile. People's media consumption has changed due to smartphones.

Xenforo started 10 yrs ago, but 3.0 is cutting edge stuff and allows phone posting easily and much more streaming content stability.

I will reiterate this again- the driver isn't the forums- it's the main sites and if we change those then we may as well change to a more usable forum broswer.

It's not really "classic PR", more "classic Jake".

Generate pointless drama from some rumour he has heard and then slink away.

Though it is very telling about the type of character they have on NPR. ASMO worked hard on his site yet those on there are willing to jump ship back to PR as soon as they click their fingers...
