If you can’t discern the clear shift from the ABC over the last couple of years you’re analysis of media and news reporting skills are pretty poor.
Getting your news from a variety of sources gives you that range of views that illustrate the considerable movement of influence that has been going on here behind the scenes.
It’s not rocket science.
As for allowing more Australians into the country... there’s a travel consultant guy based in Melbourne, I think it is who has been arranging charter flights for Indian nationals wanting to return home... quite a regular service too, a lot of flights over the last year. He has regularly offered the Australian govt seats on those charters which otherwise return empty, and your erstwhile federal govt not only refuse the offer, they just don’t bother talking with him.
Carrick Ryan makes a good point today that we are led to believe quarantine spots are limited and that is the choke point for repatriating Australians wanting to come home... yet Tennis Australia has apparently managed to find 1000 rooms to accommodate the Open attendees. That suggests, as he points out, that the cap on arrivals is an economic issue and the Federal govt could easily make more rooms available if they chose to.
But Dictator Dan, of course... from the mouth breathing gallery.

100%. The ABC hasn't even tried to hide that it has moved significantly to the right over the past 12-24 months. Yep, and I assume there's federal input into the running of the Ocker Open too. The feds would have had to have signed off on the players getting exemptions ahead of true blue Aussies.grievous wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 3:23 amReturning Australians is a federal issue.kiwigreg369 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 1:37 amthe perception of closing your borders to Victorians yet being open to tennis stars - who then complain and get huge air time....Slim 293 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 1:11 amkiwigreg369 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:43 amShirley Dan gets extra marks for shooting himself in the foot.Ali's Choice wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:28 am So there are five positive cases in HQ in Melbourne who are associated with the Aust Open. Yesterday there were 6 locally acquired cases in NSW's Beraal cluster and Sky News repeatedly referred to NSW as the Gold Standard. Fair and balanced.
More broadly the reaction to covid by the tennis stars indicates just how different the mindset is elsewhere in the world - especially Europe & USA. I don't think we understand a world without border closures, quarantine and a focus on containment towards elimination. A number of our friends going on summer holidays overseas from the UK is one of the hardest things for me to actually understand. Another example of shooting in the foot.
Shirley I don’t see how anyone would consider quarantine program working in the capacity as it’s supposed to, as shooting oneself in the foot?
And prioritising tennis players over returning Australians...(ABC - https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/a ... y/13065712)
Especially when the media have an agenda against you, even the ABC.
Not sure any of the quarantine programmes are at capacity as they reduced the intake.

Grievous,
You are demanding "evidence" that the ABC's editorial slant has shifted to the right. What kind of evidence could I possibly produce that you would deem appropriate? There is no independent 3rd party in Australia that publishes research into the political ideology and bias of Australian media organisations? The only time I've ever heard of a media organisation being critiqued in this way was when Tony Abbott's govt repeatedly tried to find pro-ALP bias in the ABC's reporting a few years ago, and of course found none.

You didn't mention editorial so thats already a step back from my original question and your claim already. The ABC has had a heavy bias against the ALP state Premiers for the last 12 months. It's the result of stacking the ABC board with conservatives and threatening funding every time there is a story critical of the Coalition
Shirley it cant be hard to find several lazy examples of this "right" turn by the ABC, an editorial should be even quicker.
You could find the same number of accusations by the LNP themselves claiming the opposite which begs the question, why would they fight a media outfit if they are working for them? And why cut their budget so much which could turn voters against them?.
Now my theory is that you've drifted as far left as the the Sky after dark right crowd are right you gleefully watch every night. It becomes us versus them, no media organisation supports your view so they are all against you.
You pander as many conspiracy theories as Craig Kelly does on Covid alone.

Grievous, 'editorial slant' doesn't relate exclusively to editorials. The ABC doesn't have an editor as such. Editorial slant relates to the general ideology behind a media organisation.
Eg. The USA's Fox News has an editorial slant that trends strongly conservative.

Unmasked: McKenzie's shopping trip to remember with new partner
By Samantha Hutchinson and Stephen Brook
Updated January 20, 2021 — 3.21pmfirst published at 1.44pm
Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie has revealed she is in a relationship with News Corp's federal political journalist Simon Benson a day after the pair were photographed together shopping in a regional Victorian hardware store without masks.
The former sports minister and Benson seemed to be flouting a rule requiring shoppers to wear masks. The pair, photographed at the checkout of the Wodonga Bunnings store smiling and sharing a joke, appeared sans masks - despite a Victorian Health ruling requiring them to be worn inside. The horror!
"We are in a happy relationship and have been open about it," McKenzie and Benson told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in a joint statement on Wednesday afternoon.
Benson’s employer News Corp did not return requests for comment. The veteran political journalist has been a fixture of the federal and NSW press gallery for more than two decades.
The admission came the day after sending the Twittersphere into overdrive in which McKenzie was slammed for visiting the Bunnings with Benson without masks.
A fellow shopper snapped the relaxed looking pair and circulated the image on social media via the Mad F***ing Witches feminist Twitter account, taking aim at their failure to comply with health guidelines.
The account at first failed to identify Benson. Twenty-four hours later MFW announced Benson’s identity and asked: “Why are they together? How does this impact our democracy?”
We all know the Morrison government’s rules regarding MPs fraternising with their staffers. What’s less clear, however, is whether those rules extend to MPs and journalists and shopping trips.

What’s the story with COVID in Melbourne, I’m watching the BBL and there’s no crowd there really, is that because it’s two neutral teams or are there still restrictions
Re: Melbourne. About to be fvcked again. Fvck you Ozzie Open!
There’s still limited crowd sizes, but I’d suggest the neutral teams are also the reason...

Ok, Dictator Dan is making moves again. He is seeking to extend the State of Emergency until 2029.
Now given we are holding the Australian Open in Melbourne, surely that is not something any sensible person would do whilst under a State of Emergency? We have had no outbreaks and our track and trace capabilities are almost on par with NSW. So why do we need to extend the State of Emergency beyond its legislated maximum timeframe?

Victorians have been warned to brace for more COVID-19 infections after it was revealed the Melbourne hotel quarantine worker who has tested positive had a “high viral load” and is most likely carrying the mutant UK strain.
Re: Melbourne. Fvcked again. Fvcking Tennis.
No doubt they have the mutant strain, it seems to be the dominant one.
But we have caught it early, and we are acting quickly. It should be squashed before it gets out of hand.
