I'd kill for a player of Angus Gardner's quality right now. He was one of my favourite players back in the day. The fact that he was never test capped just shows the depth that we have historically enjoyed at 7.Mr Mike wrote:Well spotted.Ali's Choice wrote:Was that in 1996 back in the first season of SR?Mr Mike wrote:Dean Coleman, Angus Gardiner and Todd Blackadder started against the Chiefs without even a single Super Rugby cap between them.Ali's Choice wrote:Our backrow of Christie, Sanders and Havili is the least experienced and least capable backrow in the history of Crusader rugby. Crusaders will be far too slick, 15-20 margin.

Clarke knew he was going to land on Alaimalo. Where else was he going to land? The outcome probably wasn't intended.Adrianmole wrote:Clearly accidental contact.Ali's Choice wrote:Shit news for Chiefs fans that Alaimalo is out of the rest of the competition. Caleb Clarke is a f**king grub.

Cruden's 100th and some other fellow has a bit of an anniversary as well. Could add some extra emotion into the game

Yes, congrats to both Sam Whitelock (150) and Aaron Cruden (100) on their significant milestones. Both players have been wonderful players and great servants of NZ rugby.Enzedder wrote:Cruden's 100th and some other fellow has a bit of an anniversary as well. No chance of stopping the try and plenty of time to pull out.

I agree 100%. I think he was annoyed that the try had been scored and just wanted to hurt Solomon a bit. It was Richard Loe on Paul Carozza minus the forearm.Enzedder wrote:Ali's Choice wrote:Clarke knew he was going to land on Alaimalo. Where else was he going to land? You cannot just jump on a player who is prone on the ground whilst in the act of scoring atry. In that instance the defender has to be responsible for the safety of the ball carrier. I cannot believe that Clarke didn't receive a lengthy suspension.
Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
I’ve seen incidents like that a hundred times without injury, it’s pure bad luck is all and trying to equate it to Loe on Carroza is crazy talk. Get a grip fellas, injuries happen.
I’m happy if the Saders sneak this by 1

Interesting to see Manasa Mata'ele playing very well for Marist. He is a top quality player. Not only has he been superb every time he's played for the Crusaders, but I think he has the quality for even higher honours. I think he's clearly a test standard player. The fact that he can't even force his way into the injury depleted Crusaders team suggests that the depth in NZ rugby is still very good.

Is there any super rugby team he wouldn’t start for other than the crusaders?

Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
I couldn't think of any. Not given his past performances, where he has always been excellent. He's scored 16 tries in 23 matches at SR level and always looked dangerous. I would be extremely comfortable if he was permanently in our starting XV.Wilderbeast wrote:Is there any super rugby team he wouldn’t start for other than the crusaders?
Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
I'm backing 'Crudd,' 'OB,' 'One-ball,' 'Azza,' whatever nickname is current, to have a big one today. His hundredth, and a chance to put the Crusaders in a speed wobble is probably enough of a driver, but I genuinely feel that today could be the day everything clicks for the Chiefs.

Caveman Sam hits the 150 mark tonight -- he'll be up for a big performance

I actually felt a bit sorry for DMac there
Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
Great watching the big man running down the line at full pace... good try.
Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
Anyone else starting to worry about Mo'ungas goal kicking?
Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
Refs have reverted to kind. Guys diving over the ruck left right and centre.
And the Cru score off the back of 4 or 5 such moves.

This is going to be a massacre. Sad to see Chiefs crowds returning to pre-title levels. Perhaps if NZRU cough cough ahem NZR sorry AC want Australia to reduce a team for a TT comp then Chiefs should also be cut.

Well-executed tackle but the word choice of tackle.Kiwias wrote:I actually felt a bit sorry for DMac there
Against a much bigger man running at pace parallel to the sideline but not tippy-toeing along it, it needed to be a much lower tackle to be a chance of putting any part of the ballrunner into touch.

Blues need a Chiefs win tonight. Do it for your fellow northerners Chiefs boys.

Re: Chiefs vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: Sat 1st August
Chiefs looking dangerous enough, they need to reign in the errors though to be a chance. Saders nice and patient and ready to run away with it.
