... is 50 this year.

It's a celebration day https://youtu.be/KMQdiHIZgSo

Some highlights:
1. The ridiculously overwrought but yet amazing and sensational Since I've Been Loving You https://youtu.be/K8R7zjJMIfU plus live version https://youtu.be/1gHlbHtdVLU

2. The gorgeous Bron-y-aur Stomp https://youtu.be/oC-9aEf0Q-A sensational guitar playing

3. Gallows Pole https://youtu.be/RSZca1Q9IWA

I can't be bothered to link to Tangerine or Immigrant Song but they are good too.

Yeah. Cool song.

Think from memory it is one of the ones Led Zep let them use for that Almost Famous movie

Which is a very good movie as an aside

I can't separate 1, 2 and 4. 3 is 75% brilliant, so is Physical Graffiti and HotH is 50% as is Presence. The other 2 are meh.

What's clear is that the run of albums from 1 through to Physical Graffiti is the greatest run of quality ever by a rock band. Nobody really comes close.

There is one good song in particular on In through the outdoor.

Bonham at his best. Try this forum drummers

Yeah fool in the rain. The Bonham, Purdie Porcaro shuffle. I actually don't like the song. The drumming is epic.

I'm not really talking about musicianship which is always world class.

Yeah. I know what you mean.

Bonham had so much power and timing and played off Page's changes instantaneously live. Quite amazing

Stones 68 (Beggars Banquet) - 74 (It's Only Rock'n'Roll), IMO.

So let the comment pass then. You don't have to defend their honour any more than Bungle has to champion the rights of the artists they plagarised.

Back on topic - III is probably my favourite LZ album alongside Physical Graffiti. II is also fantastic. I and IV a bit lower then the quality falls off a bit for me (though how Wearing and Tearing got passed over for an earlier release is beyond me as it is an amazing track).

It's a good call but sadly it is wrong on the basis of the diversity (and inclusion) of music, musicianship, influence, innovation and the LZ heights are higher. And the Stones know it. Still a very good call.

I see where you're coming from. III is so important in terms of their development. It basically echoes through the rest of their work

PG is probably their most adult and sophisticated record, and hugely innovative. Ten Years Gone is a masterpiece.

I is just... imagine being around in '68/'69 and suddenly LZ I turns up. It is groundbreaking and genremaking.

IV so get sick of. But it has Stairway and unfortunately that's the greateat risk song ever written. It just is. Also Black Dog (top 3 rock riff ever) and Levee. I kind of hate Levee but the drumming is apex drumming.

Not that old chestnut, how many more times.
Blues chords from the 30's onwards have been used by most rock bands for millions of years, lyrics melodies rearranged endings middle bits and so on have been borrowed nicked by all the best bands in the world, I don't give a shit as long as it preformed well and sounds much better.

I've worn out vinyl copies of I-IV but it's a bit more than that. No other band from the era have been sued as much as Zeppelin.

They gave themselves writing credits for songs which they clearly had copied wholesale - melodies, riffs and lyrics - from others. And they always had to be sued - many times by many different artists - to acknowledge what is plain to anyone with ears. Page in an interview blamed Plant for all the lawsuits - saying it was Plant's job to change the lyrics but he was too lazy - ffs.

Rolling Stone did a handy article covering the most obvious examples - https://www.rollingstone.com/music/musi ... fs-223419/

Thank you, Derriz. Riffs have been reimagined, reinterpreted but Led Zep lifted entire songs - lyrics/melodies/song titles even and never gave an ounce of credit. As much as I enjoy listening to them, it’s a shit move. I don’t recall any other band of their stature doing a ‘Dazed and Confused”.

Led Zeppelin are a great band and certainly are not the only English group of the era who where heavily "influenced" by early 20s and 30s blues, particularly Delta Blues.

From the OP

The original Gallis Pole

another old bluesy cracker. sometimes i think zep 1 is my favourite album, then graffiti, then 2, etc, etc..

so much quality to choose from, wherever some of the original blueprints came from.

Look, I'm a massive Led Zep fan and while blues chords and lyrics are fairly derivative, they just put their names on songs written by someone else.

Sure, their arrangements were innovative and their performances incredible, but there's a good half dozen cases of outright theft that go well beyond 'inspiration'.

Just tell them who wrote "The Maid freed from the Gallows" and they can add their name to the credits

Stuff like that is fine, it's a traditional song reworked and to be fair, they listed it as such in the credits. They did claim other traditional songs as being written by them at other times, which is stupid but not actually costing someone else money.

It's stuff like Whole Lotta Love, Lemon Song & Dazed and Confused that are the egregious ripoffs.

It is hardly a thing one band is to be singled out for.

The Beatles were particular renowned for it
