Watching Stedman Gans scoring the Bulls first try. They made a spelling mistake within his name. It should have been Stepman Gans seeing how he can goose step and side step. Unbelievabull!

With just days to go before the team’s next Unlocked match on Friday, the men from Joburg have yet to train this week.
The Lions will only know on Wednesday whether they will get the green-light to host Griquas in a Super Rugby Unlocked encounter at Ellis Park on Friday.

This, after the team and coaching personnel’s latest Covid test results are to be known – on Wednesday morning.

The entire squad was tested, like normal, on Tuesday morning. The team though have yet to train this week.

Currently 11 members of the Lions Super Rugby Unlocked squad are affected by Covid-19, which resulted in last Saturday’s match against the Cheetahs, set for Ellis Park, to be called off at the last minute.

And while the word from Lions headquarters in downtown Joburg on Monday was that it was “business as usual”, the squad didn’t train like they normally do on a Monday.

Rather, the team met up on Zoom, to discuss the latest developments, and didn’t get close to a rugby field.

And, it is understood, the players returned to the safety of their homes early on Tuesday morning from Ellis Park, following their latest round of Covid tests. They would not train on Tuesday either.

A decision on whether Friday’s game against Griquas goes ahead or not will likely be made only on Wednesday morning, once all the results are returned. Should there be no more positive cases, and those who were positive are now negative, the Lions could hit the training ground immediately.

Cash van Rooyen and his coaching team would, however, only have a few training sessions left before Friday’s match.

Also, Griquas would have to be informed timeously about the game, as they would normally travel to Joburg from Kimberly the day before the match, in this case, Thursday.

If Friday’s match does go ahead, it will kick off at 7pm.

The Lions have confirmed Friday’s clash with Griquas has been greenlighted to go ahead after the latest round of Covid-19 testing.

Last weekend’s Super Rugby Unlocked match between the Lions and Cheetahs, scheduled for Ellis Park, was called off in line with Covid-19 protocols.

The decision was taken as part of prescribed precautions advised by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) to limit the risk of further infection in the rugby community.

This side should get past Griquas. Griquas defended like demons against the Bulls and matched upfront. This time though they go with a new frontrow and they rang some changes.
Lions are full of running in that backline. Lombard, Stean Pienaar, Simelane, Dan Kriel, Tiaan Swanepoel bench and Ross bench

Griquas coach Scott Mathie has made nine changes to his starting lineup for Friday’s Super Rugby Unlocked clash with the Lions at Ellis Park.

Only six players from their last match – a home defeat for the Pumas almost a fortnight ago – have retained their positions in the starting lineup, while there are two positional changes.

Re-looking at the Nelspruit game's teams and I noticed Stonehouse strengthened his bench with 11 players, and it says he still has to pick from them
For sure he knew he lost the game against the Stormers due to of his bench
Pumas don't want to slip against the Sharks last minute as they did against the Stormers

Good win for the Lions. Griquas great in fighting back the second half. James Verity-Am nr15 great game. He was solid under the high ball, showed great speed out running Simelane and he caught Jantjies off guard by gathering his kick that was meant for the Lion's wing and score a try. Zak Burger as always had a good game.
Lions scrum first half, Sadie scrummed very well. The two flankers Tsutuka and MJ Pelser played well and MJ Pelser was a good replacement for Jaco Kriel. Very quick onto the loose ball. Marnus Schoeman second half also played well. The two wings Skossaan and Stean Pienaar both won many meters. Skossaan if i am not mistaken scored a hattrick.

So it depends on the severity of the storm. The Pumas left so many points on that field but credit to the Sharks who were much better than last week
Breakdown penalties in all the games baffles me. Penalties are for not releasing and not rolling away and a few for side entries which are more clear.
How can one release the ball with so many hands on it, all the defending team does is to get as many hands on the ball and they've got a penalty. How can a player roll away if he is pinned down between bodies, all the defending team has to do is pile in there.
No wonder Jake White does so well with the Bulls, he is a master of breakdowns.
In the 2007 WC there was only one team which had less posession in the whole tournament than the Springboks and it was Portugal. He knows how to play without the ball. Must say Bulls peppered Stormers with high balls and he made Jaque van Rooyen a World Class loosehead. Fourie du Preez learnt Ivan van Zyl to break. Morne' Steyn made Stormers look like jokers. Jake White is definitely building the Bulls into one of the best rugby teams on this planet. Already looking forward seeing them playing the B + I Lions.
