Poor win by the Lions but I'll take it. Seems no injuries and the players rested nicely through the game for Wednesday's game against the Bulls

Tough win for the Lions. The wet conditions made the scrumming difficult.

I thought the Lions playing well within themselves, not pushing the game up the middle too much, spreading it wide. Almost "resting" for the Bulls game?

You may be right, it was a close win though, they hadt to fight a gutsy Pumas. Rested their frontrowers with bench and made use of the bench which will help them against bulls. Bulls haven't play for a while which means Lions could be sharper but no predictions here

Closer than I liked. I would have preferred them going full out for 40-50 minutes and then rest the starting players, rather than playing almost at half pace from the start

Why would you think WeePee escape rugby claws of death? Thought only a Frans Steyn boot kept Vrystaat alive

Theoretical the Cheetahs can still make it. That is if they score 9 tries more than Griquas. They get 1 BP for every 3 tries scored more than opponents right. With such a big win it will be 3 BPs + a 4 pointer for the win.
Practically not possible. Griquas never lost that far against any team and they play in Kimberley

They are 6 points behind the Sharks, can max get 5 (4+1 for 4 or more tries)

Jake White has named an extended squad in preparation for the Vodacom Bulls’ Currie Cup clash with the Lions at Loftus on Wednesday.

The group is larger than normal mainly because the team are still awaiting a few Covid-19 test results.

The squad will be trimmed and the match-day 23 will be finalised as soon as possible.

If JW plays the team in bold he is focusing on getting 5 points from the Pumas rather than risking his first team in a tough match against the Lions. If the Bulls win, fine, but it's not important that they win both matches

The match-23 will be named as soon as they receive further Covid-19 test results.

Apart from Gans and Arendse, other regulars such as Gerhard Steenekamp, Nizaam Carr, Mornay Smith, Sintu Manjezi, Marco Janse van Vuren were also left out due to Covid-19 protocols.

“It’s been an interesting and challenging season to say the least, with the past two weeks probably being our most testing yet. We haven’t had a lot of time together following the isolation protocols, which doesn’t make it ideal going into a crunch game like this one,” White explained.

The crunch Currie Cup match between Western Province and the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday is in doubt due to positive Covid-19 tests in the Sharks camp.

Province were set to host the Sharks on Saturday afternoon, with both teams vying to secure a home Currie Cup semi-final.

However, the fixture is in serious doubt after the Sharks camp was rocked by multiple positive Covid-19 tests on Wednesday.

This could also put the Currie Cup playoffs in doubt. The Sharks were one of four teams to have secured their place in the semi-finals this past weekend. The infected Sharks players will now need to isolate for 14 days, which means the Durban franchise could struggle to field a team next weekend as well.

The Super Rugby Unlocked match between the Sharks and Stormers in October was also cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols, so the latest news will be desperately disappointing for both teams.

The Sharks are now set to undergo another round of tests on Wednesday, and will anxiously await those results.

South Africa’s domestic season has been plagued by a number of fixtures being called off because of the coronavirus pandemic.
