Billy Bragg, anyone?

Post by shanky »

Hadn’t thought about Billy for a long while

My memory of him was seeing him live, single amp, pumping out emotive, raw political rock (‘Which side are you on Boys?’) etc

AC would love him.

He’s gone a bit country ever since. Not sure I like it, but interested in other views.

Saw him in 1985 or 86, he was good then, not so good anymore, Life's a Riot with Spy vs Spy is still one of my favourite albums though.

Loved the guy.

It was not always about the politics. He wrote some beautiful lyrical love songs too.

For me that was part of his charm. Rough, earnest but sincere.

Billy is brilliant. Wrote some classic songs and had some classic albums like the ones mentioned.

Some of the songs on workers playtime are gut wrenching. He clearly had his heart ripped out when writing the album.

Unisex chip shop by the other BB (Bill Bailey) is a great Bragg parody

My wife loves him. When she and her sister get together on the wines, Billy comes out.

Personally, I never saw the appeal. Dogshite singer with sub-par songwriting skills. His singing voice is like fingernails down a blackboard.

Quite liked his collaborations with Wilco. Been listening to a bit of his stuff recently. Still stands up well.

Very tempted to post on this thread, about my Billy Bragg experience, but don't want an argument with the fans

I’ve never thought much of him, but some mates are disciples. Wilco made out he was an absolute horses arse working on the Woody Guthrie tribute they collaborated on.
