Somebody else is using my phone number

So a few weeks ago I got a phone call from some random bloke asking why I'd called him. Bit of confusion on both parts as I'd never rung him. Eventually he apologised and hung up. Whatever.

But then this keeps happening. Phone calls and messages along the lines of "hi I have a missed call who is this?" and honestly I'm not sure what I should do. I've googled it and there seems to be a thing called phone spoofing where some scammer makes it appear as if they're calling from your number.

Should I be concerned? It's not a massive issue as I'm not being bombarded with phone calls but I'm quite curious as to why my number is being used.

Probably someone using your number to scam people.
Best to contract your network and explain....or stop letting your kids play with your phone.

Probably some scammer using a VoIP server and setting the A Party to numbers in chronological order then calling other B party numbers also in chronological order. Done off some sort of dialler. Probably from India as well

Do you reckon I should ignore it or get my number changed?

Basically I dont want the police to come knocking thinking I'm spending my free time scaming old people on the phone.

I dont think they know your number. They're guessing it.

What i think they're doing is using a dialler to send out thousands of calls from for example 07xxxxxxxx1 then 07xxxxxxxx2 and continuing in chronological order.

Nothing you can do really

If say the person who calls claiming you called them , tell them to block your number.

Crafty work, I assume when the police come calling you will show them this thread to prove your innocence whilst you live the high life on scammed pensions. Chapeau
