Playstation Pro 4
So I got one of these from work for my birthday. Never owned a console before.
I just bought UFC3, Madden 18 and Elite Dangerous online.
I like sports and open-world / survival type games. What else should I consider?
I want to get one of the boxing ones too, but there's seems to be some debate over which one of the Fight Night games is better out of 3, 4 and "Champions".

They don't make boxing games anymore, none on the current consoles.

Monster Hunters seems to be the in vogue game of the moment. Well reviewed and very popular at the moment. Open world and survival, seems perfect for what you want.
Re: Playstation Pro 4
Horizon Zero Dawn is pretty good in terms of openworld survival adventure.
Elite Dangerous takes a lot of getting used to, I'd look at some tutorials of theirs on youtube to get you started.

I don't mind that. I used to play Elite in my C64 when I was about 10. Thought it was great.matta25 wrote:Elite Dangerous takes a lot of getting used to, I'd look at some tutorials of theirs on youtube to get you started.

If you were ever into the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat X for PS4 is probably the best one they have ever produced.

Yeah ... as a sidepoint, I remember "good graphics" being important for games back then - a big selling point. I've never played a PS4 before, but I was checking out some titles on YouTube to have a rough idea what to expect. Holy shit ... it makes me wonder how they're going to outdo it? Surely it just can't really get much better than what it is now, in terms of visuals. Those games look absolutely insane - they're more visually impressive than real life - and run at 4K resolution. What's the next thing going to be? Why even bother working on a PS5?SASP wrote:Commodore 64 that takes me back.
It seems the only way forwards from here in terms of games is to start concentrate more on the actual game mechanics, A.I. and stuff like that, because any increase in visual quality is going to be negligible at worst and superflous at best.

Get Fallout 4, and Skyrim and GTA5. If you like open world games those 3 will keep you entertained for months.
I have a PS4 but I only really use it for Netflix, and playing Fallout and Skyrim. Played some of Final Fantasy XV but got a little bored of it.

Not so much into those war games to be honest. Without wanting to sound judegemental, I find something a little odd about people "playing" at World War 1. It almost seems disrespectful. We've turned a nightmare into a bit of a laugh with mates.backrow wrote:get Battlefield 1, add yourself to the bf1 thread, kiss goodbye to 1000 hours of your life minimum. awesome game, played by awesome people.
That said, I did have a shooting game on my PC years ago that I liked: Rainbow Six. It was cool planning out covert tactical stealth missions and then playing them through.
Re: Playstation Pro 4
In terms of the tech, getting more games running at 60 frames per second with no slowdown is probably next on the agenda, and native 4K resolution (though that seems a bit pointless to me). The graphics themselves can always look even better too I guess.Mog The Almighty wrote:Yeah ... as a sidepoint, I remember "good graphics" being important for games back then - a big selling point. Gameplay is king though. That's why my PS4 is gathering dust atm and I haven't put my Nintendo Switch down in months.
Re: Playstation Pro 4
don't be a Chop - its nothing about WW1 really that makes it enjoyable, and all the in game stories are respectfull, poignant and historical, and nothing to make them a laugh or disparage any of the WW1 events or combatants. If the graphics were slightly different, it would still be a fab game if you were shooting cowboys, or martians, or Mutant Plants - its the games mechanics, feel and maps that make it so fun, not the WW1 part.Mog The Almighty wrote:Not so much into those war games to be honest. There was a rumour that they wouldn't, just roll out PS4 pro and keep with small upgrades phasing old systems stage by stage. However as the PS4 pro hasn't been a huge success and some backlash about not being able to play new games for older PS4 fans that has been nixed somewhat. It doesn't help the 4k stuff means downloading is sloooooow!

Siege is one of them that I play, it's mostly a team game and requires a fair amount of tactics as you can die with a single shot.

.
Metal Gear The Phantom Pain ( Mission based but plenty of open world type exploration options. Not optimised for PS 4 Pro though?)
Uncharted 4 ( Treasure hunting action adventure, not the best one which is Uncharted 2 but 4 is "native" to PS4 Pro)
GTA 5 as above ( Open world + missions of criminal adventures. Not optimised for PS 4 Pro though? )
