Kovacic is a very average player. Barkley is legitimately a better version of him.

Pedro is such fucking garbage. He's chipped in with some useful goals this season but he's an absolute fuckwit and after coming on today he gave the ball away virtually every time he touched it. Just absolutely useless.

Kovacic and Jorginho represent no threat whatsoever. I can understand Jorginho's existence in the team as the glue to keep them ticking over but he's not particularly good, and Kovacic is a worse version of him.

Loftus-Cheek and Barkley might get in each other's way but both have more drive, more vision, and more all-round ability than both of those two.

Higuain looked like the only time he's run recently is when a Deliveroo driver's gone to the wrong address, Hazard had 3 men on him at all times, Luiz was actually decent, Emerson was alright... very lucky to win that, Jovic is a bastard and I wish he was going to Chelsea. Kepa redeemed himself at least.

Indeed. Though the Premiership can thank the mega deals it's got recently. Apparently Barcelona are one of the clubs who want some changes to the 2024 CL that basically make it a super league for top teams that is close to being walled off for other teams because of the fear of what the English league can generate.

England play Holland on the 6th June...that's a tough gig for Southgate.

Who's in contention from Liverpool? 1? Spurs with a couple more

Van Dijk
Wijnaldum
Henderson
Trent
Gomez

Alli
Trippier
Kane
Winks?

Point of order. He said Southgate

Spurs have spent no money, Chelsea have spent a bit, Liverpool mostly spent the Coutinho money, Arsenal didn't massively overspend.

None of these clubs are Citeh or United

Meanwhile, a week out from the cup final the town of Watford is getting overexcited

Town Hall:

There's more going up around town & a big screen being put up in the massive park.

*IF* we win, it's going to be carnage :o

I agree. But they have all been pretty big spenders compared with teams outside their leagues top 2. The ability toinvest in stadiums and bigger payroles are also helpful. The irony being Barcelona and Madrid are also significantly responsible for English teams being stronger financially these days due to their high level transfers to Spain's big two.

Nabbed from elsewhere, looks like a tier 1 source is confirming the current situation at United:

Quote:
Leaks:

Lingard on thin ice. Work rate isn’t a problem, end product is. People at the club feel like he’s focusing on his brand rather than improving as a footballer and some are actually quite annoyed at him. Coaches are emphasising that he’s 26 and not in the same «young» bracket as Rashford, for example.
Sanchez. Proving hard to shift because of his wages. A swap deal seems the most likely, but not much happening yet.
Big summer upcoming. Mostly signings with potential, with a few senior heads.
Next season is being looked at as a transition season.
Daniel James. Close. It all happened quite quickly.
Koulibaly. Currently being worked on and making progress.

Koulibaly to United.

In truth a player of Lingard's limited ability has no place in creating a "brand" of the back of being a semi-regular starter for one of England's biggest clubs.

As someone who would prefer Liverpool to win the title over City I'm going to be super happy in about 5 hours time. I can feel it in my loins.

All of those clubs apart from Spurs have spent lots of money in recent years. One year where they have not spent that big isn't so important.

They haven't spent lots in recent years, most of those sides have had to sell off players to afford new ones. It's more like one year where they've been able to spend more freely than usual.

And compared to sides like City or United or Barca or Real or PSG or whoever, these teams are nowhere near, financially speaking.

It’s the hope that hurts but City are a magnificent team and deserved winners of back to back premierships.

It's been a great season. It's been absolutely amazing watching Liverpool and City going head to head. The disappointment week after week of seeing Liverpool win game after game was matched by the relief of City winning their game to go back on top.

Fantastic

Yeah, congratulations City. A real league-winning machine, albeit assembled at barely conceivable expense. Great to watch and deserved winners of the league.

Liverpool fans will be rightly proud of how close their team came. I'm sure the DVD sales will be immense, and Liverpool fans will be able to look back in years to come and say "I was there when we nearly won the league". Enjoy the moment. Cherish the memory.

Obviously Liverpool have had the fluke season. I've lost count the amount of times a Salah dive or an absolute blunder has gifted Liverpool 3 points but justice has prevailed.

Who was it that dived to get the free kick for the winner against Newcastle. I thought the defender was going to attack the linesman.

Well, I don't have work, but the amount of Liverpool shirts walking around Bangkok today has been odious.

Not bitter, but severely worried about it becoming permanently a one team league.
