The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I understand why we're not favourites but don't quite get why we're not been given a chance. It's not that bad a side.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
It’s turning into a really tasty team. I expected to see Leavy Ruddock Penny so surprised at that. Baird starting is a massive result. I’m excited to see Harry Byrne and Frawley combo, and JOB at full back.Conspicuous wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 1:22 pmirishrugbyua wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:59 pm Leinster Rugby (caps in brackets):

Leavy playing at 7 will tell us a lot more about where he is now in his recovery. Didn’t expect to see him playing there again this quickly and it’s a good sign that the coaches have selected him to play there. Like most people I’m sceptical that he can deliver at openside again at the highest level but at least this game will be a good barometer of his speed around the park and influence at the breakdown post injury
Why have Rte gone with Heaslip for fudge sake
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Farrell needs a big scalp. We haven't looked convincing in the games we have won, if anything we look less organised. The criticism of Joe was he was too structured, if you sacrifice that you'd hope for creative dividends.
Any number of coaches kicking their heels right now could tread water with the players we have.
It's a tough ask to impress against this England team but that's the job.

EOS just used the term rugby real estate. I have only ever heard one other person use this ridiculous term. He posts under the name Jumper.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Why is Kelleher in the side when he's a worse thrower than Cronin?
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Seems we've found a hooker who's even worse than Besty on a bad day

Missed the first 20. Going well I see

Farrell Out
He's worked with these guys for years if it's not happening now it never will.
The forwards are a mess. Sad to watch.

Kelleher has to be hooked off.

Shane Daly will have a huge opportunity to make his case for the 15 jersey when he starts next week.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Look at England's attacking shape compared to ours. It's depressing.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Hmmm.
No positives from that at all.
Backrow missing, front five getting overpowered, setpiece a mess, no attacking shape.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Handing over to the assistant after a hugely disappointing World Cup was a really stupid decision.
Andy Farrell always had a tough task to follow Joe Schmidt but the least you'd expect, having been part of the set-up already, is that the basic standards would be maintained.
Ireland need some new ideas.

The entire coaching team has to go. The rot from Schmidt's last year is too deeply rooted to be fixed.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Doesnt really matter who we pick in the back three as they so rarely see any attacking ball. I know he was beat in the air for the first try but I thought Keenan performed reasonably at first glance.
Other than that

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I actually thought JGP was ok for the first 20-30 mins.
Keenan had an okish game for the first 20.
Both started having mares as the pressure ramped up.

Two things stand out here.
Experience is no use if you’re no longer physically competitive.
Bulking out the provinces with the likes of Byrne and Burns works great when we’re trying to get consistency in the Pro14. It bites us on the arse when we are looking around for potential Test stars and none of them have the experience.

Fair to say that the most entertainment has come from Jonny May’s try.

If he got charged down 3 times in 15 minutes like Lowe or missread that jump like Keenan, he'd be getting loads of shit. But non-UIster players made those mistakes.

Body language from the players coming back out is bad.

I think Harry has to be the guy Cullen puts his chips on going forward now.
Sexton and Ross are just holding things up.

Keenan has been no better than Stockdale in fairness. At least you could believe Stockdale might make something happen.

When did we lose the ability to kick competently.
