Depends where you go. Epicormic growth on gum trees is remarkable.

Unfortunatly the weeds pop up too bloody quickly too.
Yeah the bush recovers incredibly quickly - it is the poor animals that will take a long time. I have seeon plenty of birdlife, wombats and snakes around our area lately thought so that is good.

That's why you don't donate to government organisations. Government will just reduce their funding.

Wait what? The RFS commissioner has emailed you to let you know what new gear you are going to be getting all thanks to a $147 million increase in funding? But that contradicts what some rando from the internet is saying.

Does anyone else get the sneaky feeling that the RFS commissioner may be misleading Shrekles here?

Here is the letter Mat,
Afternoon all,

Following the State Budget yesterday, I just wanted to share the good news that the NSW Rural Fire Service has received a record budget allocation from the NSW Government for 2020-21. You can read the full details of the budget for the emergency services here.

For the NSW RFS, the 2020-21 budget is $672.5 million compared to the 2019-20 budget of $524.3 million. This is an increase of $148.2 million (28.3%). This is in recognition of the important work that needs to be done following the last fire season, and it is a good outcome considering the difficult economic climate at this time.

As noted in the Budget Papers, the NSW RFS has received:
• $34.4 million in 2020-21 to support the replacement and refurbishment of NSW Rural Fire Service firefighting vehicles; and
• $10.7 million in 2020-21 for additional bush fire hazard reduction across NSW to reduce fuel loads and protect lives and property.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is also a key agency in the NSW Government’s response to the NSW Bushfire Inquiry, which will see an investment of $192.2 million over five years to protect life, property and support our emergency management personnel.

In particular, for the NSW RFS, the key initiatives include:
• $16.5 million over the next five years for enhanced mental health support, including the establishment of dedicated mental health support personnel in all Area Commands across the state, in recognition of the significant impact the fire season had on our people
• $15 million in additional personal protective clothing for frontline firefighters
• More than $9.5 million for Strategic Fire Trail Network planning and implementation
• $10.3 million for the upgrading of firefighting vehicles, to ensure they meet more modern safety standards
• $24.9 million for hazard reduction planning and audit over the next five years, including the rollout of new Bush Fire Risk Management Plans, and ensuring landowners, agencies and the community are held accountable for the mitigation of bush fire risks
• $8.3 million to continue the rollout of the integrated dispatch project, to bring the remaining 27 districts online
• $5.4 million enhancements to the NSW RFS aerial fleet and training facilities
• $2.8 million improvements to NSW RFS’s Fires Near Me app
This additional funding from the NSW Government is a significant commitment to ensure our firefighters have the best equipment and support they need, and the community is well protected.

Regards,

That only talks about the RFS budget - National Parks had been absolutely gutted in previous budgets and I have no idea how much FRNSW got this year.

The African country of Morocco has taken the World lead in solar energy. It exports power to the EU.

Australia has the resources to make solar panels but invests more in coal subsidies.

We are actually one of the world leaders in solar and wind installations. We have GW of both installed at the moment and are hitting 2.2 GW a year installed capacity and hit an RE penetration of 24% last year. Not to mention Australia will never build another coal plant.

Having said that we should be targeting not 24% RE but several hundred % and then export the rest as green hydrogen.

Australia as private industry is doing a lot. The Australian govt on the other hand is actively working against it.

The government are muppets, I agree, this gas lead recovery or whatever.

But ScoMo is in Tokyo with hydrogen people to discuss future deals with Japan.

So while they are slow and backwards, I think they are creating pathways for what you describe above too.

Look, I don't like Scomo, but you are talking BS. Its part of the zero emissions move. He won't commit to a date, but you can't get to zero emissions with 'dirty' hydrogen.

Angus Taylor has only talked about hydrogen from coal getting funding

It's been all over the newspapers.

I'm happy for you to find more information about the Lobs hitting zero at some nebulous point long after they have retired

Remember, they are still banking on Carbon sequestration.

Its in the SMH... They are doing the stupid gas plant plan, with blue hydrogen following it, with green hydrogen replacing it at some point.

I agree with you there. Even if it’s brown hydrogen today that won’t last. Japan has set in place net zero targets and brown hydrogen won’t cut the mustard.
My point was that Australi is a world leader in RE despite the government not because of it.
But we are a world leader.

ARENA has 7 projects for H2 they are looking to fund. They are green. Well they will be because there won’t be any brown power to make H2 and if we want to hit $2 / kg which is in the roadmap it has to come from RE sources.
