You’d probably have a better feel for that than me, but since there’s clubs in Subbies Div 1 who’d be very competitive in Shute, perhaps there’s reasons why they don’t ask to go back to it.

Interestingly, Gus Gould gets all this credit for developing Panthers juniors. From what I can tell, this involves (in some part) simply tying up every able-bodied junior within the catchment.
And others are copying the practice.

There’s enough SG Ball players to fill 3 teams in some areas. I know lads who haven’t played a game for 2 years.
I think it would have worked in the early 2010s, but subbies is now strictly no player payments. Largely to torpedo Balmain IIRC.

Of course, plenty of players get excellent job opportunities as a result.
Balmain paid a handful of "stars" for 1-2 seasons not the whole roster. Chabal for one match.
Maybe, I don't know who they were paying and what the terms where. It was a bit of a laugh having international stars playing Div 2 subbies, added some colour to the comp.

But they were division 1, and then they introduced bans on players payments and now they are division 5. I know correlation doesn't equal causation :uhoh:
They played div 1 subbies, won it with Drew Mitchell and Giteau then a few seasons later
They didn't drop as soon as payments changed, it took a few seasons.
Payments were banned by Subbies to stop creating haves and have nots in div 1 and sending clubs broke that couldn't afford it. Payments was a furphy really, some players at clubs got some cash for the weekend, Shute teams hardly pay players. Randwick claim they dont at all.
OK champ you must know it all then
I literally said I didn't know in my post.

That’s a big ask...

Probably only 1-2 who could even contemplate it.
Look at the div 1 clubs, its pretty much stayed the same for two decades, some have dropped down, a few disappeared.
For me the strongest and with most dept are Colleagues or Drummoyne, maybe Mosman.
But there finances are not there.

I know Forest made a massive effort to get into Div 1. Having to then invest to offer suitable facilities for the ‘big show’ might be too much. Just my opinion, no facts.
You're probably right. Why did Penrith disappear for a couple of years rather than going to Subbies?

Forrest is a quality club fwiw.
Technically, they were punted for not fielding enough teams.
Perhaps they ran out of puff for a while.

Sean Maloney did a very funny ‘Redhead XV’ segment on RugbyHQ about 5 years ago.

Can’t find it though, if anyone else can?

1. He was possibly our GOAT 13 and a very good winger, not convinced he played 10 at any meaningful level.

2. Not that red. A tinge maybe.

Colleagues too, these two teams have always had depth, when I was playing against Colleagues had 10 teams. One team was the Convicts who have split to go their own way

And Sluggy says the Rebels, Force and Brumbies shouldn't exist because they use NSW players, they would go overseas if these teams weren't there to take disgruntled players and coaches that can't progress in the mire of 'didnt go to the right GPS school/doesnt play for the right club" crap that infests NSW rugby.

Always hated playing against Colleagues.

Was quicker to get from Mosman to Campbelltown than from Mosman to Wollhara on a Saturday morning. More hospitable for afters too.

What a great game between Southern Districts and Eastwood at Forshaw. Woodies lost a player to a red card in the first half, but won the game. One of the best club performances I have ever seen.
