Is roast chicken the best meat?

Post by shanky »

Chicken-shop chicken is the best meat

Steak is good and everything, but roast chook is something you could eat 3x a week without breaking a sweat

I like the Portuguese burger when I’m feeling ethnic.

Fish and chips are the closest equivalent, but not as good I think

What is it about chicken that we like so much?

I had Oporto last night while racing out to my rented holiday home as a super spreader.

I thought it was a bit bland.

I wouldn't recommend the variety box I got, I'd go for one of their originals like the Bondi Burger or some such.

This is typical of weirdo thinking. Grown adults playing top trumps with their dinner. Just eat what your Mammy serves you and be thankful you didn't bring this up in the pub before everyone was on their seventh pint and so had the mental faculties of a turnip.

Well there is:

Pork chop
Bacon
Ham
baby back Ribs
Sausage

Imagine if we could get all of this from only one type of animal? A magical animal!

Please, stop flattering me. I raced off the freeway, raced into the shop, corralled mrs jdogscoop back into the car and squealed the tyres of my ballin' rented Kia Sportage just to get to this bach before Dan's Go Home Stay Home rule kicked in.

Not the ubiquitous Chicken Cottage, Chicken Spot etc that they do in London. The normal KFC and the likes however, and the delightful odd Caribbean joint doing jerk chicken, spicy sauce and beans.

Roasted with herbs. Served with new potatoes, vegetables, and mint sauce.

Though I do acknowledge aussies prefer their lamb spitroasted.

So good. You also get the odd indie Portuguese joint as well. Heaps of places doing fried chicken and burgs, of course, I just can't think of ones beyond the original and worst (Dirty bird etc).

I live in a city of 1 million people and I can't recall a butcher's shop here. I am sure they still exist, mostly for the hunters to prepare their kill but times have definitely changed. There is a place called M and M Meats which is kind of like a butcher's shop.

Only time I was in an authentic butcher's shop, in Canada, was after my father had successfully hunted a black bear and brought the carcass there to have it made into sausages, steak, ground beef, etc.

Nah it's okay. I've been that middle class shopper buying their wares, after all.

It's just a long way removed from a traditional butcher's shop.

When was the last time any of us were in one though, to be fair?

As said earlier, last time I was in a traditional one was when I was a teenager and my dad had just shot a black bear.

Come to think of it, If I did successfully hunt an animal and needed its meat to be prepared for eating, I would probably have to take it to one of the cattle farms in the countryside. I would be surprised if there was a shop in the city which could actually prepare the carcass for eating.

Moose for me, Clive.

My parents raised pheasants when we were young (along with chooks and turkeys). I remember that being utterly delightful too.

I've had 'roo once, and even when cooked by myself in a pan, recall it being close to moose.

Most weeks. I've got two butchers within 5 minutes walk of where I live.
